The country has various wedding destinations to offer, including prestigious island beaches and exotic jungles. But apart from the ceremonial marriage itself, here are some tips on how a foreigner can register for marriage in Thailand:

· Secure an Affirmation letter from the consulate or the country’s embassy stating that you are Free to Marry; and passport certification

·         Foreigner to Foreigner

– Depending on which country each of the couple are from, they should secure an affidavit stating that you are Free to Marry. Requirements in securing the affidavit also depend on the nationality. If you have been previously married or the previous spouse have died, the original copy of either the Divorce certificate or Death certificate is required;

  • ·         Foreigner to Thai
  • –          Thai National Identification Card, House Registration Document;
  • ·         Have the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry translated into Thai;
  • ·         Have the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry legalized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • ·         Marriage registration shall be done at the local district office. Submit all the documents needed and the Amphur will validate the marriage;
  • ·         Marriage certificates in Thai will be issued, have it translated to English;
  • ·         Have the translation certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • ·         Marriage should be reported to the foreigner’s home country, or the country’s embassy in Thailand; (this may vary from embassies)
  • ·         Minimum age requirement for marriage in Thailand is 17. Written parental consent is needed for applicants below the age of 20.
  • ·         All documents written in a foreign language should be translated into English;
  • ·         Marriage in Thailand cannot be possible if one or both of the parties is currently married in another country;
